Moo

ERgh. EINSOMNIA.

Still, gives me the opportunity to update this a bit.

The KVM sort-of works - it keeps killing the mouse (despite working fine for PS2 keyboard, and VGA); anyone any idea why? In the mean time, I've reverted to two different mice for the two machines :/

Beer festival has been good when I've been there - I've mostly had cider and Perry. Bumping into my supervisor from the Wellcome/CRC institute was good, too.

[livejournal.com profile] atreic isn't well ATM, which is a shame, but I seem to have been able to cheer her up a bit, which is good. Foolishly, I have also been assimilated by the MSN instant messanger meme - principate [at] hotmail [dotcom] will find me...

Oh, and anyone know if a linux MSN IM client exists? I'm guessing not :-(

This: http://amsn.sourceforge.net/ claims to be one such, and appears well thought of.

Gaim runs msn, aol and icq. I haven't tested icq but the first two certainly work. Everybuddy supposedly does, but I can't get it to work. Kmerlin runs just msn, and is very pretty, but needs lots of KDE stuff around it. Gaim and kmerlin are both available as debian packages.

Probably: Gaim 0.60 does MSN quite nicely for me :-).
And I've had the problem with a KVM that the mouse switches Linux -> Windows fine, but not back again - I have to CTRL-ALT-F1 followed by CTRL-ALT-F7 to get it back :-(;.

... KVM problems turned out to be my mouse. It just died and switching to an old Genius Netmouse has everything working fine :-) (except the mouse wheel in Linux .. never could get that to work ..).

Non-AIM/Oscar protocols require plugin.

However can have multiple concurrent protocols with just one GAIM client open. :-))))))

GAIM + plugins = w00t!

KVM on windows and linux boxen? Mouse OK on Linux all the time, dies on Windows if you switch? That's the problem I had...

See if you can find a USB mouse for the Windows box, you can even borrow mine until I get USB working again. Leave it plugged in and set up. Then your PS/2 mouse will (sometimes) mysteriously stop failing, allowing it to be KVM switched nicely without a cluttered mousemat.
