Friday evening was "Martin's evening". I think I didn't play badly, although you sit right next to the Great flue pipes when playing Emma URC's organ, so I've no idea what the balance was like. It was an evening of varying entertainments, including sillyness, thoughfulness and a couple of items that made me cry. I'm definitely glad I went (although was suprised at the range of people I knew there), and I think it's something Martin would have appreciated. Afterwards, a few of us retired to the Sino Tap (formerly the Town & Gown), which now does chinese food (which we didn't sample), and a small but well-kept range of real ales (which we did, in the non-smoking bit).
I slept in on Saturday, which proved to be something of a harbinger - I got up for long enough to tidy up and eat lunch, only to then retire to bed for the rest of the afternoon feeling tired (and not entirely healthy). I dragged myself up and smartened up for
claroscuro's birthday celebrations, which were excellent as ever. Rhubarb cocktails were particularly memorable, as was certain people's inability to do
senji's "ha ha" game. I was still feeling tired, though, which I think didn't enhance my perception of things. I think pigeon may be considered Too Much Faff :)
Yesterday I made a bit of a hash of providing piano accompanyment to the hymns in chapel, but these things happen. We then went off and beat the bounds of LSM parish, which was good fun, and hopefully a good witness. After that,
atreic and collapsed in the Grad Pad bar for a while before evensong at Peterhouse, followed by a small-scale wine-smuggling incident :)
Formal hall was, well, as to be expected, and the company was good. We combined in the Panton Arms afterwards (not the PO as I commented elsewhere), and it was one of those lovely summer evenings where you can sit outside and the temperature is Just Right.
My plan for today is to work until lunchtime, then go into town to buy some more minidisks, and then join people for punting, prior to my radio show at 6. Then it'll be a quiet evening in as everyone else will be out, with a possible camera-collecting excursion.
