If you were listening to CUR1350 at about 5.15am this morning, you will have heard, live, that David Howarth beat Anne Campbell by nearly 5000 votes. You will have also heard David's acceptance speech live. Auntie Beeb didn't get it out live due to a technical fault. Cambridge's election results were live *only* on CUR1350. I do believe that's a first for student radio.

I can't describe how I feel right now. The result was great, after a very tense evening at times. But scooping everyone to bring it live to our listeners makes it so much better. Wow.

It was a bit of a result, both in parliamentary and broadcasting terms :)

We were monitoring CUR in the study, and when it started making "count declaration" noises, we whacked it up a bit (hope Kate didn't get woken).

Hurrah hurray.

Was his acceptance speech good? I'm glad she's out and he's in, anyway. He was claiming he'd make the bridge on Lammath's Land all shiny and new, which might be nice as long as he doesn't disturb the ducklings and moorhens when he does it...

I don't remember the details but, yes, it was good. There was even a rather implausible bit in which he said something like how no-one's he's talked to thought Anne Campbell did a bad job of representing them (apologies if I'm misremembering).
