Interview with the archbishop of York. Interesting read.

He mainly seems to be trying to distance himself from the more reactionary African anglican bishops. It seems a shame that he feels the need to do that.

The first black archbishop in the Church of England,

Mmm, is that true? The first post-Reformation certainly, but Theodore* was from Tarsus and so would have been of a darker complexion! His companion Hadrian was from an Italian African colony and so could well have been black but he wasn't Archbishop.

*Who according to Bede was the first archbishop of Canterbury, as those prior to him were not official titled that.

He did a good job as Bishop of Stepney (which is local to us) - I was glad to hear that he was going to York.
