I've just posted this to r.g.r.a, but it occurs to me that some of the angband-skilled readers of this LJ might not read that very often, so I reproduce it here in the hopes of receiving sage advice...
I have just found in the dungeon Chaos DSM (-2) [30,+15] which
would give me basic resists + confusion/chaos/disenchant as well as
having a breath attack.
There are downsides, however. I lose a fairly handy dex bonus from
Thalkettoth, which equates to a -3 to-hit penalty. Also, it takes my
burden over the weight limit, meaning I'd have to shift about 10lb of
my pack contents. I'd also lose shards resistance.
[As an aside, my current game-plan is to loiter on level 35 until I've
maxed all my stats; is there anything else I should be thinking of
before going deeper?]
Is it worth it?

ETA Oh, actually the DSM doesn't give basic resistance, it's just unharmed by the basic elements. That makes it a little less useful, though I do have spells...

Loitering until you max out your stats can't do any harm beyond boring you, though I apparently maxed out my stats on my winning game at level 47 (as a warrior with Ringil, however!).
