Thursday was a pretty slow day at work - I faffed around burning the two CDs to accompany my thesis, and then found another typo or two, and had to reprint a couple of pages.
I walked over to main campus for the lunchtime communion, only to discover that it wasn't happening (I think - some other group was using the chapel, and there wasn't any sign of it happening elsewhere). What is it about Warwick University and their inability to communicate? I was given a free CD (produced by Rich Shapero) on the way back to my office. It was dire. At about half past four, I headed towards Cambridge, where
senji and
claroscuro were generously putting me up for the night (again!). A pleasant evening in the Carlton followed.
I want to gently pimp Stoakley bookbinders (67a Bridge St, through a little archway). I called them a while back to enquire when I'd have to drop my thesis off, if I wanted to pick it up on the 31st at lunchtime. They said "we could just about do it from first thing Monday [29th], but Friday would be better", and I thanked them, and rang off. On Friday I went round there, and said I had my thesis with me, and could they bind it by Wednesday, please? Their response was "Hm, we're quite busy... Oh, were you the chap who called us the other week?"; in response to my affirmative reply, they said "ah, that's fine then. We wouldn't have wanted to try and do another one on that time-scale". I was impressed - I'd given them no solid indication that I was going to get them to do the binding. They've not taken any money yet either. So, if you want anything binding in Cambridge, go to Stoakley!
After that was sorted, I went to Selwyn for a chat with Joe. Apparantly the bursar is in on the "will
emperor submit before water gets turned on in the chapel?" sweepstake, and will be dismayed to learn submission is definitely on the 31st. A little background here - the chapel water was turned off years ago now (around when IMT arrived), because the pipes came from the main the wrong side of the meter or somesuch. Despite promises, this has never been sorted. Joe has pushed hard for something to actually happen, and new pipes were sorted over Christmas. They are still not turned on...Anyhow, I then headed to the Grad Pad for coffee with
naomir; it was good to catch up with her again. We then went to low Mass at LSM, and I stayed for lunch before returning home.
Yesterday, my parents visited, which was good. They liked the place, and we had a gentle day together. Today I'm off to the Cathedral for the morning service, and then will go shopping before collecting
atreic from the station.

In other words, you hadn't entered into a binding agreement?
