Actually you're supposed to have a licence to watch BBC clips on your computer; we got a mild warning from the TVL guys who visited us over that.

Though note that only applies to clips that are transmitted at the same time as broadcast on TV (and this applies to non-BBC TV as well).

Ah well, he was watching live-as-broadcast tv (tennis), so the warning was still valid in our case.

Oops, I hadn't read the context of this thread - according to here, anything prerecorded including downloadable clips do not require a licence.

It's not true! You only need a licence for watching live-as-broadcast TV. You don't, for example, need a TV licence to watch a tape of recorded BBC programs.
