When I booked my tickets for the conference I'm due to go to tomorrow, the flights looked like this:
LHR 12:20 - ATH 17:55
ATH 19:20 - CFU 20:20
A week or so back, when I booked my transfers to and from the conference hotel, I discovered that the latter leg had been pushed back, making the schedule:
LHR 12:20 - ATH 17:55
ATH 20:50 - CFU 21:50
Fair enough - few hours of tedium at Athens airport, but such is life. Today, I discover that the outbound leg has been delayed:
LHR 15:00 - ATH 20:40
ATH 20:50 - CFU 21:50
10 minutes is too short a time for a transfer in Athens. My travel agent spoke to the airline, who said that it was the result of a strike in Greece, and they'd move my booking to the next flight:
LHR 15:00 - ATH 20:40
ATH 05:30 - CFU 06:30
...meaning I'll need to check-in at ATH at around 4am. The only hotel on-site would want &eur;205 to put me up for those few hours, so I'll be crashing at the airport. Joy. Still, I discover that sleeping at Athens airport isn't too bad. I'll just need to pack plenty of books.
I've re-arranged my transfers to the hotel, and told the hotel I'll be arriving later than expected.
I wonder if someone is trying to tell me to stop going to conferences... :(

I sympathise with the changing flights doom. When we went to Egypt last year we had a 6.20 flight from Heathrow, which is a really grim place to 'sleep' over (we got the last tube down, which was a mistake as all the sensible seats had been taken), then had a 40 min change at Munich which we only just made (huge queues at security).
When are you off?

Bizarrely, last night I dreamt I was attending the next TS committee meeting, where you showed me the new passport you had to get after the Australia conference debacle. (Note that I do not in fact recollect whether you found your old one after all, or had to get a replacement.)
The night before last, I dreamed I was cuddling a reddish-brown collie cross puppy, which then bounded away and jumped into a bucket of orange juice, from which it emerged resembling a puppy in sweet and sour sauce. It is generally agreed that my dreams are at the surreal end of the spectrum.

My sympathies.

For example, this hotel in Piraeus is showing as having a room free for US$49 (that was my first pick at searching for youth hostels). Buses from airport to Piraeus at 2050, 2110, 2130, 2150, 2210, 2240, 2310, 2340, etc, buses from Piraeus 0100, 0130, 0200, 0230, 0300, 0330, 0400, 0430, 0500, 0520, 0540.
Depends whether you can be bothered I suppose. I've never done the Piraeus bit, but I'd guess a journey time of 30 mins. Buses leave the arrivals level to the right hand end of the terminal as you exit it. You can buy a ticket either from the booth there or the driver.
Eleftherios Venizelos isn't too bad to sleep in: there's plenty of floor space. There are a few internet terminals around the departure level: they used to be free but I haven't used them for several years. There is (pay-for) wireless if you have a laptop with you. Is the Corfu leg Olympic Airways? They have a fairly major prescence at the airport so checking in should be fairly smooth (as much as it's ever smooth in Greece). Greeks always leave it to the last minute :)
If it all goes horribly pear-shaped, you can get buses to Corfu. Not expensive, just slow :)
