Following from a game of Articulate, there was debate as to which should have been easier to guess (in that game):

It depends what the forbidden words were, though.

It probably depends a lot on who's playing. If trying to get some random person to guess, "avocado" would probably be easier, but with knowledgeable players I'd expect to say "dynasty containing kings Edward the first, second and third" and move on straight away.

…so what actually happened?

Put it this way, I'd get the avocado.

They'd be a bit tricky in Pictionary ...

What sort of articulation did you all manage?

FWIW they seem like the sort of common-but-hard-to-describe words that are easy to guess depending whether someone comes up with an inspired clue ("Guacamole fruit", "King Henry, Henry Surname" maybe?) or has to try to describe an avocado or house anjou, which is tricky, unless you're on exactly the same psychic wavelength :)

I don't think there's any real difference. As others have pointed out there are readily available descriptions for both. What it comes down to is the inspired thinking of the describer and the inspired guesses of the rest of the team.

I still like amalion's (correct) answer of "Bulgaria" to a description of "It makes me think of weightlifters"!
