I'm not sure there's a big cross-over between histories fans and people who know specific cow breeds, dear...

Well, it's hardly the first time I've told a joke that no-one else got, is it? :'(

O ye of little faith in Matthew's friendslist! ;) All...six of us. Yeah.

Although, if you got that far, you might well be one of those people. Which suggests that Matthew's weird set of knowledge is rubbing off on you. Haha ;-p.

(I think it's a normal wife thing. I've become an engineer. It disturbs me.)

Well I wouldn't have got it if it weren't for [livejournal.com profile] atreic's comment about specific cow breeds, but assuming those are Anjou and Maine cows... then I do get it and it's an adorable joke. :-)

the alt-text of the image is your friend! [It's a Maine-Anjou cow and calf]

And for people who decline to trawl thru the HTML source to find the ALT attribute?

My browser shows it when my mouse pauses over the picture...

Oh, err, no it doesn't. I meant title, didn't I? whups.

I now have a mental image of Patrice milking cows. In THAT coat.

But I'm worried about where he'll put the swords. Resting in the pail, perhaps?

The Oxfordness of a joke (x) can be expressed as its inherent humorousness (h) divided by the number of people who get it (n). I would say that this is a joke with a very high value of x, ie it is x-cellent.

And if you hadn't said it was hard-to-get, nobody would have dared admit that they didn't get it. ;-)

I'm still waiting for an explanation of the other half of it, given that Google knows plenty about Maine-Anjou cattle but seems a little short on other referants.

I thought the above comment about "histories" gave it away -- it's Shakespeare, though I wouldn't've got it without that, as I kind of avoided the histories. :-}
