Auntie Beeb seem to have picked
beeb's petrol picture
to illustrate many of their stories on petrol shortages/tanker strikes/fuel protests recently.

It just strikes me as a little, well, phallic. Maybe I need to get out more...

I've mentioned before that fuelling a car reminds me of a certain other mundane activity. Apart from the slight ridiculousness of just holding a pokey thing in front of you with liquid coming out, it lasts half a minute or so, and I get an odd self-consciousness about where to look while filling up the tank - it seems rude to look at other motorists while they're doing it and appreciate their vehicles...
