Well, that was quite a weekend! Thank you to everyone who came, and also for the presents!

The weather wasn't ideal on Saturday, but that didn't stop a couple of games of croquet, and some BBQing happening, as well as the usual drinking (including the gin/lemon juice/fizzy wine cocktails), eating (mostly of BBQd dead animal), and talking (mostly rubbish in my case ;). There was some game-playing, too, but I seemed to mostly miss that.

I managed to make it up on Sunday in time to take a couple of people to church, whilst [livejournal.com profile] atreic took care of the less religiously-inclined. We rustled up lunch for the 8 of us who remained at that point, and eventually drifted outside for another game or two of croquet, and another BBQ for dinner. It was a shame we'd not had better weather on the Saturday, but the lazy Sunday afternoon was something I need more of in my life, I think!

By the end of this evening, I think the house might be tidy again, too :-)

Do you have a date for that, as yet? My weekends are rapidly vanishing to the logistics-beast.

2nd August? Hopefully combined with a thesis submission party!

Hm, I am expecting to be in Cheltenham, then. Oh well - you are allowed to have parties without me! :)

[grins] But it would be good to see you some time! The trouble is we're both stupidly busy! Hopefully post-submission life will calm down for me. Still not entirely sure I believe in post-submission. Which reminds me, I should sort out sending out things to proofread, at least on those bits I haven't got editing to do on still!

Sorry for not making it; we drove around Coventry for a while, trying to find you, until we noticed it was time that we'd have to leave for our prior engagement anyway. We should organise some other way of seeing you.

You're not the only ones who had trouble finding us, which is odd. Maybe google sends people a funny way?

Coventry is nice, you should come and visit us :)

There was a 'go through one roundabout' where I'm fairly certain we chose the wrong exit. I should email you (or, better, get Colin to do so) and coordinate dates. (Or figs, I like figs)

Google's directions seemed basically OK to me, FWIW. Admittedly I took the wrong turning off the Cov ring road because of bad signage, but I don't think Google was to blame for that. (It'd be really useful for a route-finding application to have knowledge of local signposting idiosyncrasies and give you its directions in a form that would still make sense when you saw the signposts, but I think it's well above the call of duty – if not AI-complete – and I wouldn't blame Google for not having done it.) In any case, when I reached the next turning I was fairly easily able to work out my mistake, turn round and go back to the right exit.

I had more trouble getting out again, actually. Cov's signs directing leaving drivers to major motorways seemed particularly bad to me.

Bad signage was our problem, I think. We may have taken a different wrong exit from you. Our real failure was not having a local map!

We also had some trouble getting out, but that may have been partly because by that point I was annoyed (mostly with myself) at not making it to the party ...
