As noted elsewhere, the TOGMeister is no longer going to host Auntie's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. [livejournal.com profile] juggzy decided that the internet at large should choose his replacement. I'm hosting the semi-finals of the selection process, so her entirely fiends-list doesn't leave in disgust ;-)

The quarterfinals are in these three posts, complete with youtube links, in case you've forgotten what any of these people look like. I've instead opted for a pointless fact about each culled carefully from Wikipedia.

This is a public post, so feel free to point any interested parties who agree with me in this direction.

Your choices in semi-final 1 are Stephen Fry (Rector of the University of Dundee 1992-1998) or Sue Perkins (Footlights President 1990-1991). In semi-final 2, you have Bill Bailey (named his son after a Star Trek character) and Eddie Izzard (one of the first people to spend a Euro in London).

[Poll #1243767]

Stay tuned to [livejournal.com profile] juggzy for the grand final!

But where are the pointless facts?

Argh, LJ has eaten them! They were there when I wrote the post. Bah.

You can still put them in!

Bah. I've not seen this before. It assume it's too late to nominate Peter O'Toole?

Stephen Fry v Sue Perkins is really tough. I tend to opt for Sue, on the grounds that I'm, the right sex for her...but that's no help this time.

Argh, my two suggestions facing each other in the same semi. Argh. Oh well, I’m guaranteed someone in the final.

This is a fix! It appears that voters are treating this as a popularity contest without reference to whether those involved would be any good at presenting Eurovision. That's the only possible explanation as to why Phill Jupitus did not make it into the semifinal.

Well I personally thought Phill Jupitus would be good and Eddie Izzard would be even better. And I think Eddie and Phill and Bill would probably all do a better job than Stephen, but I don't get to make that comparison (yet).

Them's the breaks. I mean, you'd have assumed that the elections for London Mayor were about who was most fit to be the Mayor, wouldn't you? For example.

I am really torn between Bill Bailey and Eddie Izzard, but went for Eddie on the basis that he's even more of a Europhile.

Is it absolutely certain that Tel won't present next year? I haven't seen an official announcement on a BBC press release; only the comments that he gave in an interview the day after the event.

The link to the interview which was on my blog has now been replaced by a 404, but yes, I am absolutely certain that that was what he said in a radio interview given last week. Whether or not that is what will happen is a different issue

That's furry nuff, then - I was just checking that it was new news and not a continuation of the Togmeister's original comments. :-)

God, how on earth to choose between Eddie and Bill? Had to go for Bill in the end because of his more in depth musical knowledge :) Because of course, the music is what Eurovision is all about *snerk*
