I've previously suggested that, in car parks, a siren should sound every ten minutes or so, followed after thirty seconds by lasers scything along all the lines between spaces.

…though I've also suggested that before they do this they should provide spaces large enough for reasonably common sizes of car. If it's small enough to travel on cross-channel ferries without a surcharge, it should fit in a Tesco parking space!

I often think they should get rid of some of the parking spaces here completely (there's always loads empty) and use the extra space to extend the bicycle parking to allow 1) space for more bikes, 2) enough space in each slot to be able to fit a bike with, you know, actual handlebars.
