I took part in the social contact survey!

I took part in the Social contact survey, which said that if I were an animal, then I would be a a lion! Go here to find your contact type, and help with scientific research.

Done, although I'm not sure how representative it is.

Me too! I bet that'll be different today, I haven't seen anyone apart from Colin, Judith and Benedict.

It says I am "Vernon Kay" or "a fox" and my numbers are Medium, Medium and Medium. I went to two meetings today so it probably thinks I am more of a social butterfly than I actually am.

Items to feed back to whoever wrote the survey:
  • "You need to enable Javascript to use this survey." — why? Isn't it just basically an HTML form? Excessive unnecessary reliance on JavaScript irritates me (this means you, Facebook!).
  • Why is it styled so that I need a browser well over 1000 pixels wide to view it without a scrollbar? I am using a 1024x768 laptop which won't fit the whole page on in full-screen mode, but I don't use full-screen mode because I like to be able to see what else is going on.
  • Someone else mentioned the distance thing, but fortunately I didn't meet anyone between 2 and 3 miles from my house.
  • On the "who met each other" screen it says you can use the "Previous Previous" and "Next contact" buttons. I assume that should say "Previous contact".
I guess I'm somewhat of an outlier on those first two points.

re point 1 - the javascript does the anonymising, so the names you use are never sent to the server; at least as I read the JS.

Oh, and all the images in the meme result posted to LiveJournal should have height and width attributes so that it cooperates with people who placeholder large images. :-)

Done! I travelled on the weekend and so I'm a crazy wild outlier. Would you like people to do it on a more statistically normal day?

I gather they're happy for people to do it several times to reflect different sorts of days, and that's partly why they ask what day you're reporting on - and you can say at the beginning how many times you've done it. I've just done it for Monday, which is a lot more interesting than the one I did yesterday for Sunday - having met 9 people rather than 1 :)

Done. By chance, you picked a day when I visited a hospital.

It appears I'm a sheep. )-8

And when I did this about 1 minute ago, it said at page:

Not so good!

I'm also a bit worried that I got a column that says Knows which seemed to correspond to those of my contacts who had seen each other that week - but that's not really representative, since, for example, my family KNOW the neighbours even if they haven't seen them this week (or even this month). And what about "don't know" e.g. how can I know whether or not my doctor sees the server in the garage, or my neighbour met the supermarket checkout man 10 mins after me? I don't even know whether I have seen the same servers to be honest, as I don't pay attention below a certain level of regularity or recognition/connection - is that unusual?
