The short-list for this year's Hugo Awards is available (has been for a while), and there's a useful analysis of the puppy-slate issues here. Voting is open until the end of July.

I'd like to read at least most of the nominees (I've previously had a "don't read the puppies" policy, but that's going to be tricky this year), but presumably there will at some point be a voter packet which will contain some of them. And on past form, while there are some nominees I'm likely to want in dead tree in due course, there are others where an e-book version to read once would be just fine.

So, DoeS aNyBody know when the voter packet will be out and/or what's likely to be in it (or, for local folk, feel like lending me any of the nominees), please? The only one I've read thus far is Ancillary Mercy.

Haha, oops. I've no idea why my fingers typed that. I'll fix it.

Now I want to know what the post was like pre-typo.

I have e-copies of the Stephenson and the Novik (I am disregarding the puppy-taint; I nominated both of these and thought they were great, the Novik was certainly the best thing I read last year, the Stephenson is 2/3rds amazing and 1/3 blah and full of his usual diversions from the plot to tell you about nerdy things).

(I'm trying not to acquire more physical books, space is expensive)

The thing I'd heard was that Vox Day had a strategy this year of deliberately picking some things that might well have got in anyway, in order to add to general chaos, confusion etc. Quite possibly so he can damn people if they get No Awarded and damn people if they don't get No Awarded, or put himself in a situation where whatever happens, he can claim it as a win for him. Also, he seems to have chosen some really pisstake nominations as well.

From what I've read so far - as the post you linked to says, the Sad's are a forgettable bunch this year, so there's something to be said for ignoring sad-taint and only worrying about rabid-taint.

(Once again, I find myself a non-participant in the Hugos, so I don't really know why I'm commenting here...)
