I had to replace the light bracket on my bike. Again. That one replaced one that I bought in March 2014; this one has lasted less long, but it also hasn't quite failed - I noticed that the lamp was shining too low, and then saw a crack in the stand. The new one is a different design (tubular rather than pressed metal) so will hopefully last rather longer, but has the downside of pressing on the front mudguard; you can sort of see that in the picture below. While this isn't causing any problems now, I suspect it means I won't have enough clearance for the winter tyres any more :-/

That's frustrating! Pat has a very bright light he uses on his bike, but it's much smaller than the one you're showing. It's some sort of LED thing that is blindingly bright, but is also very light weight. I could ask him about it if you'd like.

That is an LED lamp, and quite a seriously bright one, too - it's an Iq Cyo that puts out 60 Lux (pictures of the beams here) and is driven off the dynohub.

I just have rather funny geometry round the front fork & brakes, I think. Something to think about as and when it's new bike time :)

Ah, I see. I couldn't tell that from the photo. That's bright! Bikes are so complex these days! Pat rides a Cannondale mountain bike with street tires. (He has an arthritis problem, so he needs something that keeps him slightly more upright than a regular street bike.) It's constantly amazing to me how technical all the structures have gotten.

Not like the bikes I rode as a kid at all!

Modern hub dynamos and LED lamps are pretty amazing - they push out a lot of light, and as the rider I don't notice any rolling resistance from the hub dynamo at all.
