Really? My girlfriend's dad works in trim development for Jag/Aston/Ford in Coventry (forget which bit). Paul McLeod?

Shiny, but woefully impractical doesn't necessarily mean, don't buy it. (-:

I should add that it's worth estimating your petrol and insurance costs to see if they really make sense, and to budget maybe a grand or so to sort out the leaks or whatever. The mileage is low, at least.

My fear with this sort of thing is that I'll find that if it needs a fair few things done with it, I'll want to cut my losses but I can't then resell it for much in good conscience. It's really worth looking at it closely if you're seriously interested. I'd probably thinking about paying a little more for a little newer one if you really want one, depending on how much maintenance you'll be doing yourself.

so gorgeous! want! Want! WANT!

I have a friend with a Jag. Occasionally he lets me sit in it and pretend it's mine.

Let us be informed... the cheapest jag here is 1,450. And that has a CD changer too. Although it's not blue :-(

And here is 3,999.

Although this looks most like your jag and that's 5 grand.

But the backs rather ugly, which I didn't expect to be saying...

They have two different types of back. I think.

Viz:

Or did you mean the flying-buttress look? They are unconventional-looking cars, but highly likely to become a classic, IMO - or possibly already are. I like the XJ-S, and indeed considered buying one; the XJ6 is just a boring swanky repmobile. :)

It's worth remembering that the post-1991 Ford-financed ones are supposedly better, as in the article I pasted on IRC last night.

But yes, number-one caveats are petrol and maintenance costs.

Slight concerns about the mileage... on the other hand, it's nice and skinny and will fit into Cambridge streets.

98k for a 12-year-old is averaging 8k/yr, which isn't that high (average is generally quoted at 10k/yr). And I'd guess a Jag will take a high mileage better than yer average shopping hatch. :)

For comparison, my 6-year-old Alfa is on about 90kmiles, which is on the high side. But then it was an ex-fleet car.

Best do some research, though, and check any specific-mileage service items have been done appropriately - e.g. for the Alfa, it needs new cambelts at 60-70kmiles, which are about 500 quid fitted.

Don't go anywhere near it. Notoriously unreliable, plus '93 was just *before* Jag pulled their socks up and improved build quality etc. A car that was more wrong for Cambridge I can hardly imagine. Sorry...

I am completlysoppy over carslike that! Though I would say if you are going to buy an old-ish car you may as well go allthe way and buy a realy oldone then the tax is free and insurance is almost nothing.

I would ignore all my advice on this one, we have a 1967 MG-B I am in love with it, my whole family are uterly in love with it. So yes, I have a bit of a thing for old sports cars (ie massive bias!)
