I don't often update LJ from work at this time of day! I'm making an effort to be around during "normal" office hours for the next week in case my passport turns up, thus ensuring something different will go wrong...

Also shockingly, I'm making quite good progress with the Tolkien 2005 proof-reading. The theology of one of the articles is Just Plain Wrong (and it asserts that the feast of the transfiguration is celebrated at the beginning of Lent, which is an error of fact); maybe I should write a letter to Amon Hen and ask for it to be embargoed until the proceedings are published? :)

Finally, since [livejournal.com profile] sain_bano is stealing my lovely wife this evening, does anyone fancy a little gentle Mao? If so, comment here, and I'll achieve organisation a bit later...

We could ask in the editorial to the Proceedings for comments to be sent to you; you could then edit them into a volume of commentary ...

Fairy Tale heros everywhere would be proud of you... :)

I would play. Naath has a list of people who said they wouldn't mind being on a list; if you email her they could probably be emailed.

Actually, the Transfiguration has two possible dates, one of which is the second Sunday of Lent. It came up on the Ship recently. Or did you mean that two Sundays in is too late to count as "the beginning"?

Really? I can't find the alternative date in Common Worship, and the Catholic Encyclopaedia online only talks about the August date, too.

Ah. Apologies - on re-reading the thread on the Ship and Googling a bit, I see that I didn't quite get that right. Transfiguration as a feast day is in August, but the second Sunday in Lent has the story of the transfiguration as the Gospel for the day (or in some lectionaries apparently the Sunday before Ash Wednesday). Consequently, tons of sermons for that day take transfiguration as their theme. Perhaps that's the source of the confusion in the paper you were reading?
