As a driver I thoroughly agree with this. I get heartily sick of drivers who whinge about speed cameras. If you don't speed then you won't get caught speeding. It's quite simple really.

The big problem however, is that we are all brainwashed into the concept of going fast. The faster the better.

I now don't cruise on the motorway above 70 MPH (the default speed limit). It doesn't really take any longer to get there and it takes less petrol to do it. Seems like a win-win situation to me. :-)

The big problem with speed cameras is where it isn't obvious what the speed limit actually is. Urban roads have speed limits of either 30 MPH or 40 MPH. The limit signs aren't necessarily obvious (and sometimes are not even present!), also repeater signs aren't always installed. What I would like to see is the speed limit displayed above the speed camera. An additional benefit would be that no driver would have an excuse for going too fast.
