It's not just fines here, with the ticket comes 3 penalty points on one's license. A total of twelve means automatic loss of license for a while (though they do "wear off" over time).

Eep! At home they are mainly revenue raisers and you dont lose points unless you get picked up by an actual cop (which I've been unfortunate enuff to do the 2 out of 3 times I've ever been done). Then you lose points and they do indeed wear off after 2 years. I'd be pretty pissed at a points system for all cameras. It'd be too easy to lose critical points. Okay so you shouldnt speed but it's hard to judge sometimes when you're doing multiple things and tired or have mind elsewhere and everyone gets them occasionally through no serious intent to speed.
