Well, it's Monday again.

Firstly, many many thanks to those who commented on my last entry. And *hugs* to all of you too. That really helped.

I took up the suggestion of planning what to do; before going to bed I decided what I would try and accomplish the next day, and in what order. This at least meant I got some things done, and felt somewhat better really. Time was rather occupied with sorting out Oxonmoot, and preparing for the weekend just gone.

That was taken up with Jon's 1-off Amber game. I've not done any Amber before (not read the second series of the books), so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. In the end, an unholy alliance between my character (Amberite) and a chaosian player rather walked away with much of the plot, but never mind :) Memorable moments include Hell-Riding at huge speed through a parrallel universe, meeting Su Hoi (who is to the Logrus as Dworkin is to the Pattern) and invading the brain of Pete's character :)

It took up the entire weekend (modulo a bit of RSC rehersal), and I'm still only now returning to reality. I've not done any RPGing in ages (as opposed to GMing, which I've been doing pretty constantly for the last 5 years), and even then I hardly ever play female characters. We may well make a campaign of it now (with a modified player list), and there may be a more detailed write-up on the web shortly, depending on how hard I'm displacing :)

I've not heard anything from Katie since last weekend now. I should probably email her, but y'know...

Oxonmoot starts on Friday. Not quite reached blind panic yet...
Mood:: Holding up
Music:: Renaissance settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah

Why had I not realised you were a roleplayer? Is this table-top stuff or live-action?

and *bighugs* too :)

Amber's pretty freeform rather than dice based as I remember, so I guess you could play it either way, but I've only see it done sitting around in a living room much like a tabletop game, and I've not actually played it myself. Do people actually play it live-action?

Yep and it's hideously complicated. it's where The Golden Shoehorn comes from (although it's misrepresented as the "golden horseshoe" there). Yes the GH is me.

You'll have to scroll down the page to find it.

Hm. LARPing Amber seems like hard work to be convincing. How do you LARP things like hell-riding, plucking things out of thin air, trump contacts, attempting to destroy someone elses' mind; things like that?

Imagination, generally. Pretty much the same way that V:TM and Changeling work in the minds eye theatre, oh and quite a few refs around as well to arbitrate. Props, and so on come into it. For things like trump contacts involve some one stating that they wish to contact x, a ref visiting x and patting him on the head until he says "I'll take it". HEll rides are done sitting down and talking to refs and so on..

I'm sure I'd mentioned the RMSS campaign I run here. Ah well :)

Amber is not larp (or at least, this version wasn't), but there aren't any dice, so mostly you spend your time talking to the other PCs or telling the GM what you're up to. For example:

"Behind that rock over there is a smaller pinker rock, isn't there? good. I focus on that rock and haul all of reality around us as fast as possible. Oh? Why do hell-rides always end up in the middle of wars? I move to a shadow where there is less of a battle. giants throwing rocks? OK, we'll move on then" :-)
