Assuming you have a selection of tins, I'd make the thing, look at how big it is, and put it in a tin twice the volume of your mix (assuming it's a cake) or about the right size (if it's not a thing that rises)....

Alternatively, if you're planning on buying a tin specially, you could look on the net for similar recipes with similar volumes of ingredients and see what tin size they want.....
